Intention to prosecute for speeding (37mph in a 30 zone)

Got my first ever speeding 'intention to prosecute' through the post today (Have been driving for 17 years) asking me to identify the driver of a car doing 37mph in a 30.

It happened last Friday and I caught it on my dash-cam. I thought it was a bit cheeky though as it's literally 25 metres before the road turns from 30mph to 50mph.

I can't argue with it really, they've got me bang to rights and the dashcam footage shows that I appear to have been speeding slightly before I even come in to range of the police car

How many people here start speeding up just before the limit changes from one to the other though out of interest?

See what you think. You can see the 50mph sign on the right, just as I pass the lay-by.


Will this be 3 points or a speed awareness course?
 
I'm one of the annoying people who slow down before and speed up after the signs, though I'm clearly in a minority judging by the number of people who tailgate me when approaching limit changes :p

I am also most definitely in the minority. Quite possibly speed awareness course.
 
I'd say speed awareness, I couldn't find any results for Essex Police, but in West Yorkshire their guidelines are between 35 and 42 in a 30 for a speed awareness course when appropriate.

Yeah, given you were likely doing an indicated 40 for half a mile before the entrapment police car I don’t think you cane really grumble about it being just before the 50 sign!

Well its not really is it? You were in a 30 limit, the camera was in a 30 limit. It isn't a '30 limit until you see a different sign in the distance'

Probably a lot of people, but to me "just before" would be approximately where the marked police car was parked. Your speedo would have said you were doing at least 40 when you went past that final 30 sign.
 
The speed limit sign for the change to “50” is totally missing on the left hand side.
It might be worth consulting a loophole lawyer if you’re already on 9 points.
Else, just bend over and take whatever comes next.

Yeah I'd normally be starting to speed up about where the police car was parked, but there are a few select locations I leave it until I'm definitely passed the sign because of them being frequent sneaky camera haunts

Except for the repeater signs showing 30 which make it even clearer.. The only loophole you'd manage to find is a loophole to say he should carry on doing 30 after the 50 sign!
 
If the change from 30 to 50 isn’t properly signposted, that’s a potential loophole - the lamp posts have disappeared, no more repeater signs, out of the village ...
