Interested in programming?

Hi All,

I just want to point out my thread in HTML, Graphics & Programming about us all getting together and learning / doing programming, under the umbrella of a project.

Many of you click buttons on this forum and have no idea about that means, when you click the start tab in windows what does that actually do? How does Google work, how does Facebook work? If you've asked those questions why not pop over to this thread and get some answers?

We've all seen in the "design the logo" thread that we have talent here, but we have masses of talent in programming. There's a lot of "young'ens" on here and some wise owls.... I think it'd be cool if we got together and worked on a joint project, exploiting our skill whilst informing others.


Whether you know your C from your azz I think this would be of interest to all.
Hopefully we'll get some volunteers, young or old, Java wizards vs scripting noobs, it'll be fun and informative if we can get enough people involved :)

Interesting.

Will pop over, need to get into some CSS/HTML/PHP/mySQL stuff.
Just so I can efficiently build and run my own site, with all of my designs and portfolio etc.
And also get my own blog in, embedded in easy to update.

If theres help for that, or anything else, I'm in!

Excellent thats great to hear, there's no doubt that on PhP/HTML/MySQL there is masses of expertise we have so it'd be great to have you involved. The biggest bit is getting lots of people interested and wanting to learn. There's a big community of skilled people on here, lets us it:)

Depending on what this is, if it's over the summer holidays I may be interested. My 'primary' language I would say is C#, but I've also got experience coding in C++, Visual Basic.NET, JavaScript in order of preference of use - I've also used PHP and delphi before, but not to great lengths. Background wise I'm currently a student taking a BTEC National Diploma for IT practitioners, but most of what I've learned programming is from taking tutorials, doing a lot of reading in my spare time and taking on my own mini projects (I'm sort of mid way through the design process of a game at the moment, on and off), I'd love to get in some real experience in working with a team.

Either way, it sounds interesting and I'd love to be involved.

he he! Personally I just think it's here that we probably have some future developers and helping out getting them on their way, whilst improving the way we work too is nothing but good. It's a pain because lots of us do it for a living but at the same time I think it's worth the effort
 
I mainly do financial software (21 years in the business, to my shame...) so if you wanted to start some sort of algorithmic trading system, probably a simple index tracker to start with, I'm your guy!

Well I think we could add in a GARCH model somewhere ;)
 
I'd actually be interested in properly learning a programming language, so would be interested in this over summer.

Don't worry it's already clear lots of you are doing exams at the moment (which in a way is perfect because it gives us time to think about how we go about this). It's just knowing people what this in OCUK that matters :)
