Interesting ~ Dual core = mono core

I am up to page 11 in the thread the inq quoted.

One thing i dont understand is why do people report this 'patch' improving super pi... i always thought that only used 1 core.

Perhaps its a windows tweak that has nothing to do with dual/single core.

No hotfix for XP 64bit edition, or for Vista, but that chart on the second link is photoshopped. There is no way that both CPU's charts will ever be exactly the same, as each thread has different workloads.

Perhaps it makes more of a difference with AMD chips though, as I tried it on my friends XP 32bit, and the difference was within the standard margin of error.

That is a rather sensationalist link. The problem is nowhere as bad as they make out and there are a number of conditions that must be met for the problem to manifest itself in the first place. In any case the problem is invisible to non-enthusiasts.

The link is rather ironic too because the hotfix supplied by Microsoft will hurt battery life quite severely :p
