Interesting fact regarding the Audi RS cars

Some of you will already know this, but as I only recently found out, I thought it might be worth mentioning.

Audi will only ever have a single RS model in production at any one time - this is why the RS4 production ended before RS6 began, for example.

EU production of the RS4 saloon has now ceased - only US production remains until the Autumn when Audi will begin production of the next RS6.

So there we go. Handy little thing to remember when you see OMG NEXT RS5 splattered on magazines or what have you.

I wonder if this policy Audi have is forced by production constraints, or is a marketing choice to retain the rarity value and excellent residuals enjoyed by the RS series?

I mean, how much is a 2001 M3 worth compared to a 2001 RS4..

The S3 is already easily hot enough for the type of car it is - 0-60 in 5.6 seconds in a 3 door hatchback is quite enough.

There wasnt hardly anything in it between the MPS and the S3

If there 'wasn't hardly anything' in it, then logically, there must been something. Double negatives are annoying and make you look daft.

I cant work out what Audi are doing with the RS6 as they are due to release it at the end of this year or the beginning of next. It will no doubt have some form of the V10 engine in it like the S6 but and its a pretty big but they are bringing a whole new model of A6 out this year(A6 Avant is released next year).

That will be far too new for them to have tweeked it to an RS model(RSs normally appear anything up to 5yrs after the base model). So if you buy an RS6 you will be buying an out of date style of vehicle. I know its still an RS but it will have the old interior design and floorpan layout still.

Don't forget they did just this with the previous RS6 - introduced it towards the end of the life of the previous model A6. And where have you heard that an all new A6 is due this year? I'm not doubting you but if its true I'm VERY suprised - the new A6 is not even 3 years old yet, is it? Surely it's a year or two off its mid-life refresh let alone an entire replacement?

but there are going to be some seriously insane used car bargains available in 5 or 6 years time. :D

Don't be so sure. A 2002 RS6 will set you back at least £25k. I don't call that a bargain.

Maybe it will still be a 2 door?

I can't see an awful lot of demand for a 2 door estate style car - and Audi's previous usage of the word Sportback has been for a hatch/avant style A3..

R32 looks much nicer than the plain S3 tbh. I wish VW would put a more manly engine in the R32.

R32 looks dull and boring in the flesh - walked past one the other day. It wasn't until I walked past again the other way that I even noticed it was an R32. It's got nowhere near the presence of the Mk4.

To be honest, 300bhp still is really quick. Infact, to most people, 200bhp is really quick.

It's very easy to lose sight of the real world, where to 95% of people, a 2 litre diesel Golf is 'really quick'.
