Interesting New Acer panels !!

Any summary to get the thread going rather than a link and run?

I'm not going to use a chunk of my mobile data looking at something that may or may not be interesting to me.

Its a range of curved monitors in a variety of resolutions and sizes: 27", 30" and 31.5" and all come equipped with G-Sync. Also have varying refresh rates and stats. They have a more aggressive 1800R curve compared to the 1900R on Z35 and 3800R on X34

As someone who's only ever experienced straight monitors, what does a curved monitor bring to the table?

I tried one in Curry's and it made my eyes feel funny and felt dizzy.

Tried one whilst standing over it? There's certainly an adjustment period to using them, just like when it comes to using a larger monitor than you're used to.

The X34 curve is quite subtle when sat in front of it and it helps keep the edges a similar distance away as the centre. The more curved Z1/Z35 are better suited for gaming or films I assume not having tried one. I did have a 40" UHD monitor on my desk for a while but the corners always felt too far away even pushed as far back as poss. Bit of an experiment really.

I would have bought a Z35 for my sim setup had it actually managed to get anywhere near the claimed panel response.

All of these are 16:9 then, which really doesn't benefit as much from the curve as 21:9. The X34 is subtle and works really well, you don't even see it during use, so I'm really not sure about a narrower screen with a sharper curve. These feel like a reaction to the success of the X34 rather than a step forwards technically. I've also no idea what panels the XB1 range are using, but if it's AUO then stay away! I personally don't feel there is going to be anything worth getting too excited over in the monitor sector until we see new DP 1.3 capable panels later this year.

I wouldnt want a smaller screen than the 34", bigger would be nice!

I currently have a 27" 1440p asus and would rather have a monitor the same screen height as that, whatever that is as i havent measured it. I kind of assumed the 34" ultrawides would be the same height.

Can't remember where I read it now but the Z1s may all be VA and the larger one, still only 30" though is 2560x1080. May also go up to 200Hz which I would need to see tested after the Z35 not fairing so well in parts of the TFTCentral & PCMonitors.info tests.
