Insomniac games have started up an R&D section to their web site. It shares some information on how they tackled some problems they have/are facing developing on the PS3.

Insomniac R&D

If they where not before then they certainly are now my favorite developers. Always open and honest in my view. Their podcast is a must listen to. They have special guests from everywhere on it, they had the guys from Bioware on it the other week.

Hope some of you will enjoy the reading :D

Oh and if you are not subscribed to the podcast, DO IT NOW FOOOOO'

I still find DVD/Blu-ray streaming to be a miracle of modern science. I always wonder how on earth a game can stream virtual cities from a disc, play soundtracks and voice audio all simultaneously without nary a stutter.

Very true when you look at the modern Grand Theft Auto games. GTA3 and beyond on PS2 is a technical feat, as the console utilises 32mb of memory. An entire city and its activity without any stuttering. Especially impressive when you look at some linear PC games which were released at the same time and struggled with 256mb of memory.

GTA3 is still the best, and most ground breaking GTA game imo.

GTA in 3D with a fantastic soundtrack, which iirc every single track etc was original on it. Added to a huge city well spaced out over the 3 islands. I spend months playing that, and never got bored.

Chatterbox FM is what made the game so good. :p
