The team remains cagey when discussing Crysis all important hardware requirements, largely because its not the only one deciding them...
"For DX10 its too early because the drivers we have are still in beta", explains Diemer.
"But our standard machine is pretty much what it says Vista requires, which is dual core, a DX10 card - just one 8800 in our demo machines, and 2gigs of RAM. As for optimising downwards the rule of thumb we tell the R&D guys is high spec Far Cry equals low spec Crysis"
Yerli agrees, but theres a mischeivious old glint in his eye.
"No matter what PC you have, we'll bring you down."
"If you have SLi DX10 cards and 4 gigs of RAM, we'll bring you down; not because we want to do that but because we want to invest in the future. [Laughs] Actually if you have SLi DX10 it will be very hard to bring it down but there are profiles which we're not exposing through the outer config which would otherwise make the high-end systems run like mediums. Users would say "What the ****? I've bought a new PC for this?" So two years later you'll be able to reinstall Crysis and it'll look better"

From EDGE magazine by the way, just typed it out so cant link it to you.

But that sounds interesting, stuff thats too demanding to run now so it will still look great in a couple of years, thats a damn good idea. But I bet its gonna push a few peoples buttons and cause an uproar

Well all Xbox 360 consoles have the same hardware, PS3, wii etc.., so its oging to be easier to make games to work decent enough on them.

But if they only have a dual core rig with one 8800, then its obviously gonna run fine on a rig with an 8800 surely, they cant have it lagging on there machines, but I rekon it was the best C2D and 8800GTX, I hope they have a mid range PC with an 8800GTS in.

Yeah they're saying its going to look great on the sort of rig they're using, but there might be stuff that you can turn on in the future when the hardwares upto it to keep it looking fresh and new

Crysis is going to be one of the first DX10 games right?, so does this mean all DX10 games are gonna run crap on cards like 8800GTS/GTX?

Yea Yea I know by the time DX10 is fully out 8800's will be really, really old, but still they should be able to run DX10 games at a decent rate, I mean its a new arcitecture etc..., and its not like the 8800 series aint powerfull.

i think hes on about that it looks good on a today highend rig
but as hardware develops you can add on stuff in the config
like even better textures, better physics etc

i think its good that it wont good on a high end rig as it makes manufactures push them selves to the limit

And annoys loads of people too, and people who cant afford high end rigs wont be able to play it at all, so there aint gonna be many players.

I dont think this is an indication that all DX10 games are gonna run like dogs...

Far Cry is STILL used to benchmark video cards - and that is like 2 or 3 years old....
Crytek just like to push the boundries in terms of graphics. That is what they did with Far Cry and that is what they are doing with Crysis

Why not just make a game that is both brilliant and hardware efficient instead of bragging about how much you're going to have to spend to play one of their games.

Poor show Crytek. You can shove your "we'll break it" attitude up your USB ports.

it will scale
he said that if you can run Far Cry on High then you will be ok to run Crysis.
I expect most people on these forumas can play Far Cry on High - my Vanilla 6800 plays Far Cry on High for god's sake

Yea my X800XTPE could play it on high with everything including max AA/AF, my Radeon 9600 could run it on Medium :D and my FX5200.... Low :p

If i can at least run Crysis then im happy. But i think everyone with an 8800GTX should run it fine cause as mentioned thats what they are most likely using to build the game on.

That IS what they are building the game on.
It ran blisteringly fast (although not with any DX10 goodies) on dual 7900 GTXs - that is what it was running on at the last E3...

pssst even if you do have some chunky hardware it doesnt mean you need to run every game in highest res with ALL effects and 16x FSAA you know?

its about GAMEPLAY remember;)?

hehe we can all hope... i would gladly sacrafice eyecandy for a good storyline or gameplay any day.

unfortunatly theres soo much more work being done on the looks of a game than actually making it a "game" i have been dissapointed of late with some of the releases. theres not been much that has kept my attention. the last FPS game i played all the way through was Doom III. Far Cray i played all the way through but that was before doom :p .
