Hi,
Anyone got any intereting places for photos in and around (30min ish drive) from Southampton? Feel like going somewhere and excerising the camera but have no idea where!
Thanks
Tom

Eastleigh Airport is a fairly reasonable spot to get some nice plane photos, romsey park is really good on a nice summer's day as there's always a fair amount of wildlife plus the old mill.

Do you mean the memorial park by Romsey Park?

Might try the airport though I only have an 18-55mm lens, so that could be difficult
Thanks for the suggestions

Southampton’s old town is good for abstract texture shots but for shoreline photos, you could try heading over the Itchen Bridge (which in itself is a good subject) for Warsash to take shots of Southampton Water looking towards Fawley/Hythe way for the oil refinery. Heading towards Fawley itself will get reasonable close up pictures of the refinery. Calshot Spit further south – opportunities for Calshot Marshes e.g. http://www.milouvision.com/archives/4159_1048088568/127790 and beach huts and also marine/industrial type shots.

Traveling a little bit “around the corner” gets you to Lepe (although the best time of year for Lepe is winter) and then down towards Hurst Spit. Hurst Spit is a 2-3 mile long shingle bank leading into the Solent with a 16th century castle at its end with great view of the Isle of Wight e.g. http://www.milouvision.com/archives/4159_1048088568/151185 and http://www.milouvision.com/archives/4159_1048088568/104577

This should all be within 30 mins or so. 45 mins for coastal shots will get you to Hengistbury Head, Christchurch Harbour etc in the west or Chichester, West Wittering etc in the east.

For inspiration - borrow a photo book on Southampton/New Forest/Hampshire from the library - I've gotten quite bit of inspiration that way.

Hope this helps etc.
