Disassemble the door?
It may take a little time but when I had one to dispose of I cut it up it was interesting to see the construction.
It was a few staples and wood glue.
Its blocked wood around the outside and across the middle, with facings both sides.
With a little time and effort you could semi deconstruct one of the larger ones, trim the facings to size and rebuild (after cutting) the timbers.
Depends if its worth it to you I guess.
You should be able to work out roughly where the solid wood goes to and where the void is.
What your worried about by trimming too much off is the integrity failing.
You can get fixings that go right through for the handles (instead of simple screws), so they in effect sandwich the door.
The hinges are the bit thats tricky to reinforce if you end up narrowing too much by simply trimming.
