ok guys i don't know a vast amount of background on it but i do know the basics behind it! but i was just curious that with my 8meg btyahoo connection should i have interleaving on or off? i've heard it can lower ingame latencies and as my computer is predominantly used for online gaming at a high level would this be of benefit to me?

If you have interleaving on it will add a good 20-30ms to your ping. It will help stabilize your connection and maintain a higher sync speed.

If you turn it off you will gain lower ping times but sacrifice a chunk of your sync speed.

True, but only if your line has problems that interleaving will cure.

If your line is not suffering from correctable errors then whatever the sync speed you are better off without interleaving.

i used to get 10/15 ping without interleaving had it turned on, now get 20/30, which is not a big deal at all

8-15 with interleaving on is surprisingly low.

The actual amount added will vary depending mostly on the hardware in the Exchange.

At worst it should be no more than about 25ms added on but often more like 10-15ms

so realistically if i was to call BT and ask them to remove it am i likely to see a ping drop or maybe more consistant 8pings? and also how long does it usually take to take effect?

You can't expect a ping drop below 8ms!
I play with dutch guys with 24mb connections and they never get below 8ms, they commonly get that on dutch servers though

really? i have a swedish friend who pings around 25-30on uk servers and if you are a follower in the cs 1.6scene then NiP's Walle gets 1-2ping on most swedish servers lol! i'm not expecting below a 8ping but i'd hope it would be a bit more common and constant? i suppose their's no harm in trying it and if it's not good for my line then i can always re-enable interleaving

Boo I have 8MB and I need lower pings boo!

Try living with 1MB and pings of 30-60 :p haha

Seeing as you live in Omnicron Persei 8 I'd expect you to have pings measuring in hours not milliseconds! ;) :p

If you're actually syncing at 8128kbps then you do not have interleaving enabled. When it is enabled, the maximum sync rate is 7616kbps.
