Over the past few week my PC has totally powered off on 3 occasions whilst playing Fortnite.
My rig is in my sig. Nothing has changed apart from keeping drivers up to date periodically and the machine has been faultless for several years. Everything is at stock, memory is set to its proper timings. XMP? Not sure what you call it.
I initally put it down to the hot weather but today it did it again and its nowhere near as hot.
In game i noticed the GPU dosent go over 60C but the CPU does occasionally hit 90C.

I can change the cooling on the cpu to see if that helps but im wondering if it could be the PSU? Ive had it several years. Not sure when but i probably got it when i got the 4080S

Any thing else to try?

90C is pushing some. Have you dusted the inside recently? What's the situation with the thermal paste?

as above - 90c sounds like it's getting a bit toasty. a quick google suggests tjmax is 89c for that cpu so quite possible that it's thermal protection is kicking in.

I cannot see your signal, so which CPU and which cooler do you have?

Most decent thermal pastes are within a degree or two, so don't be too fussy.

Ok, so this morning i nipped to Ocuk to pick up a tube of MX-4

So the CPU has now been repasted.
Ive also given the PC a general cleanup. I was rather dusty in there.
Lets see how it goes now temp wise. If its no better ill change coolers.

Well that didnt go well.

First game and we got a shut off again but i did see temos jump from the high 70s in windows to 92 when the game loaded in.

Ive now installed the peerless assassin and im now getting mid 40s in windows so i think the AIO was on its way out.

Lets try a game now...

WOW! What a difference..

Now seeing a max of 65 - 75C in game.

Now i wonder how much warranty that 100X had when i got it. Ive got 5 years in my head.

EDIT : Yep 5 years according to corsair - just checked and i got it 30.6.22 so well within the 5 years. Now should i try a RMA it?

EDIT2 : RMA request created - if they say no then ah well i tried :)

yea those much healthier temps. and sounds like it was a reasonably cheap fix too which is always good :D

A simple test is to weigh it. If you compare the measured weight with the weight on the website you will see how much fluid has evaporated.

So according to Corsair the complete unit with the fans attached should be 1.664kg. Mine weighs 1.053kg, so assuming that 1kg equal 1L water its lost over half a litre of liquid. No wonder it had issues!

I had a problem with my AIO (not corsair) towards the end of last year. For the RMA they wanted some pictures / video of the temps, performance, BIOS settings so you might have to go through the faff of plugging it in again. Just fyi.

oh damn.......guess you can be thankful that half litre or so of liquid didn't drip on to your mobo or gpu!
