Hi folks,

Currently experiencing an annoying issue with my system; Every now and then it'll just freeze for a second or two. If I'm playing a game when it happens I'll get a buzzing sound at the same time.

I have an eco harddrive which turns itself off when not in use and that can cause a stall when something is trying to access it from it's sleep state but the problem I am experiencing is new and I've had that disk for a while.

I have recently reinstalled windows for other reasons and the problem has persisted regardless. There doesn't seem to be an accompanying error in my event logs when it occurs either.

My spec (all at stock for now)-

i5 2500k
Asus P8P67pro
ATi 6950
Ocz vertex for win7 64
Crucial M4
2TB Samsung eco storage drive

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Whenever I've had this kind of thing previously it's been down to audio drivers or antivirus. You could try updating the former and disabling the latter?

I had a similar problem with my SSD and it needed a firmware install to fix it, I would not have thought an M4 would need a firmware update but im sure someone else on here has one and can let you know

Have you got trim enabled?

@ PianoBasher - I'll check for new audio drivers

@ Renton - Trim is enabled, I'll have a read up on firmware updates.

I have the latest audio drivers.

I don't really want to update the firmware on my boot drive (the vertex2) unless I really have to.

I had a similar problem, I think... it was quite a long time ago! Anyway, I disabled trim and that sorted it. Not gone any other suggestions I'm afraid.

Long shot, tried removing memory sticks in pairs or one at a time (whatever is appropriate for your setup)?

I definitely remember an old rig pausing every 2 seconds in game because of dodgy memory. Althought it's not quite the same symptoms or hardware you have!

You could try on board graphics for a while to rule out video drivers.
