I'd appreciate any views on the problem as per title. PC boots and works flawlessly... until it doesn't boot after shutdown, requiring numerous persistant re-boots until it again works.
It recovers from sleep/standby flawlessly, it's just the full boot that's the problem, and not every time.
The symptom is a blank screen, without even the motherboard splash logo, and usually a single 'cursor' in the middle of the screen, for a second or so. The monitor is working fine (and been tested) and seems to THINK it is getting a signal, as it's not displaying 'no signal'. I've also tried changing the CMOS battery with a brand new one, which I thought had solved the problem, until I just find it hasn't.
The thing is, when I transport the PC down to somwhere I can try swapping out bits, the damn thing starts working again. It's not a heat issue -all the fans are spinning fine, and it only happens from boot, sometimes when cold.
My worry is that it's the only relatively new component, the graphics card - My 'B-grade' MSI GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER VENTUS XS OC 6144MB which I bought from OC UK, with 50-odd days of its 90-day warranty gone already. And I dont want to RMA it, just to get it sent back as working.
My other relevant components are:
Ryzen 1600
MSI x470 gaming plus max motherboard
2x 8GB Crucial Ballistix® Gaming DDR4 3200MHz, running at 3200Mhz
A few PCIe and SATA SSDs. An HDD.
I did have a problem with other SSDs being junked while a different one was swapped out a month or so back, which MIGHT suggest motherboard? But I Dont have another AM4 / DDR4 motherboard on hand to test. i was wondering if putting a second graphics card in the x8 spot might illuminate anything - would windows boot using that, if the 1660 isn't booting?
