Intermittent high pitched noise under high load.

Whenever PC is under high load, such as playing a video file, an intermittent high pitched noise starts straight away, it lasts about 2 seconds then goes off for about 5, then back on for 2 seconds, and it will keep doing this until I stop playing the video file.

Things I’ve tried so far, 4 different Power Supplies, 3 different graphics cards, all that leaves I believe is the motherboard, is that right? I thought maybe I could have a coil issue with the motherboard and maybe I could solve it by using hot glue on the offending coil, but I’ve put a pencil on all the coils to hold them still, but that has made no difference, so hot glue is not going to solve this I don’t think.

The only thing I can think of is swapping the motherboard, it will have to be a used board off ebay, so I want to be pretty sure that will solve my problem before I order it, the noise is not too loud and I can maybe put up with it, but it could be an indication the board is on its way out so im thinking I should replace it, any advice much appreciated?

I've also checked its not the hard drive, nor is it the CPU fan, as i stopped it with my finger, could the Heatsink or CPU make this noise?

What 3dcard do you have? The XFX 8800GTX boards have a resistor that makes a high pitch noise under load. I had it replaced because it annoyed me so much.

I've had the same problem with my Maximus Extreme. Its now on its way back to OC, but for a different issue.

tbh, I just ignored the sound before.
