Well this has been going on for about 2 months now but I've never really had time to try and fix it. Now I have time as I'm re-decorating and if I need to re-cable then it's acceptable to do at this time.
Basically my internet is ridiculous. It cuts out and then takes ages to respond to anything. For example if I'm coming on the forums here, I can enter the Ocuk Forum address and it will load fine, and then I go to click on a particular section on the forum, and it takes well over a minute to enter it just won't load it. Most of the time it will load the title of the page in the top bar and that's it. Nothing else.
As I speak it's lost the entire connection again.MSN constantly signs in and out and it's getting very annoying now. I rang BT up yesterday and they've done a line test and say the lines just fine and dandy which is annoying. I have run 3 different routers on this connection now and all come back with the same problem. The router is connected to a switch which goes off to my laptop here, and another computer in another room. Both the computers suffer from the same problem.
I have used the router I am using now for a long time and never have had a problem before, the same goes for the switch. The problems actually started happening when I switched over to one of the BT Total Broadband pacakges and they sent me the pathetic BT Home Hub which is just a piece of junk and I've actually thrown across the room yesterday and stamped on so it's in pieces as I may have just about lost my temper when trying to do my banking. But as a side note, it felt good, really good to kill such a piece of rubbish.
Well really all I can think of is that it's the actual telephone line itself, the cable that's running from downstairs up here, I mean could that cause this? My network connection doesn't drop, but repairing the connecting which gives a new IP, clears the DNS re registers clears the ARP cache etc seems to get the internet going straight away again? I don't quite understand what is going on here all I know is that it's very annoying and I need to fix it.
