Intermittent mouse freeze (Vista)

Has anyone come across this problem before? Basically my mouse pointer freezes on the screen for varying amounts of time (say 2-5 seconds) and then works normally for a while...then it does it again maybe after 2-3 minutes etc etc.

I play a fair bit of poker on-line and this can be very annoying.

I never experienced this up until about three weeks ago. I did a bunch of Windows updates and around the same time I installed Camtasia screen recording software. I notice the problem most when I am playing poker at which time the following programmes will be running:
- poker client
- poker tracking software (Holdem Manager)
- Camtasia recorder.

Sometimes I'll also be wearing a USB headset, although this doesn't seem to be a requirement for the freezing.

The mouse is a Logitech G5 and I've had it for a couple of years now...trouble free on a couple of PCs. When the mouse pointer freezes, the lights on the mouse go off (means nothing to me but maybe its significant).

I am leaning towards this being a Vista thing because occasionally, when I turn the PC on the mouse pointer will not move and will not unfreeze. I need to unplug the mouse from USB and reconnect for normal service to resume. This behaviour has only been present since I did the windows updates.

BIOS & chipset drivers are up to date. I'm using Vista 64bit.

If anyone has any experience of this kind of thing and any ideas on how to fix it, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers

Thanks guys

bledd., am in the free evaluation period for Camtasia...I will give Camstudio a go afterwards and will probably go with it if I can get my head around it

badbob - I have just had a look at Power Options but I can't see a way of disabling power management alltogether. In lieu of this I switched from Balanced Performance to High Performance (just for good measure I set monitor off to never). Is this what you meant or is there something else I can do?

Cheers

Aha...I was poncing around with Power Management for the whole PC

Found the mouse stuff and have unticked the "allow this device to wake the computer" option.

My fingers are crossed.
