A new build of mine is suffering from a strange problem when it powers on.

Sometimes when it's switched on everything will power up, but no beep, no output at all. When I reset it a couple of times it'll boot normally.

XP 3500
1GB RAM

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what could be causing this.

Thanks

What PSU are you running?

Check the 3.3v, 5v & 12v rails in the BIOS or in windows under load and see what they drop to.

Does sound like the PSU isn't strong enough but could be a cold boot issue with your particular motherboard.

If its not the motherboard or PSU make sure the memory and CPU are firmly seated.

It's an Antec 380W PSU. I will check the voltages...

Under load:

3.3V = 3.25V
5V = 5.18V
12V = 12.09V

Those voltages are totally fine mate...it's very unlikely be the PSU now.

Might be a cold boot issue with your motherboard. A BIOS update might help but I doubt it.

Can only pick at straws here but I can't think what else it can be if the CPU and RAM + Graphics card are all seated firmly. :confused:

Has it done this ever since you built it? if so I'd RMA the motherboard.

As far as I know there's no BIOS updates - I tried this a month ago.

And yes, it has been doing this ever since I built it.
