My computer sometimes refuses to start until I unplug the 24pin atx lead from the motherboard and reinsert it.

I can't see any pattern other than it happens about every 1/5 startups.

PSU problem? It's a new motherboard, two months old.

If you are using a cooler with proper mounting (not the pins stick kind), then I'd also check that it's not fastened too tight, just in case the reason for the PC starting up when you re-plug the 24-pin cable, is actually due to the pressure on the board straightening it for a time (and then after some time it warps slightly again).

It's more likely to be a power issue related to mobo or PSU, though. Next time it happens, try turning the PSU switch off, and holding down the PC's start button for 15 seconds, before attempting startup again.

Can you unplug the computer from the wall, wait 5 minutes & plug it in again.

Does this have the same effect as re-seating the 24-pin plug?

I've got a sililar issue with my PC, it started when the pc was in sleep mode, pushing one of the button on the keyboard or power button does nothing, I have to unplug the main kettle lead wait 3 - 5 seconds plug back in the PC starts without issue and I can continue where I left off, now it's started doing the same on a cold boot.

I be watching this to see how you get on.

Do you have a spare PSU to test with?

Typically, it's yet to do it again since opening this thread.

Maybe my John Cleese inspired "Damn good thrashing" rant had it's desired effect.
