Hi guys
Quick (I hope) configuration issue.
Basically we've had a dead server at work which provides DHCP/DNS, domain control etc, which I've been asked to set up the replacement for, but without knowing the previous configuration. I've now got a network which looks something like this
(Internet)
|
Router (192.168.1.254, provides DHCP on 192.168.1.x subnet)
| (Server port 1, 192.168.1.1)
Server (provides DHCP on 192.168.16.x subnet)
| (Server port 2, 192.168.16.101)
(Rest of networked machines)
The router provides a wireless network Company1 for guest use etc, so shouldn't be able to see anything on the 16.x subnet. Everything important is on 16.x, staff machines and servers etc - both wireless (Company2) and wired.
At the moment I'm fairly sure I've got the setup wrong, as machines on Company1 can see the internet. Machines on Company2 can see the internal servers, ping each other etc, but have no internet access.
As far as I can tell, I've got some DHCP/DNS/IP settings wrong somewhere. Here's what I've got at the moment
Router:
IP: 192.168.1.254
Provide DHCP on subnet 192.168.1.x
Provide DNS: NO
Server port 1:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.254, should this be 192.168.1.1?
DNS: Currently set as 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, but should this be set to 192.168.1.101?
Server port 2:
IP: 192.168.16.101
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.101
DNS: 192.168.1.101
The server is providing DNS and DHCP.
It's probably just one glaringly obvious problem, but other than the external port's DNS and gateway, everything looks right to me.
Thanks
