Hi chaps..

Looking to get some new internal doors for my place.. the originals are all knotty pine, 4 panels (2 panels of glass in each.. even the bathroom ) but after measuring up i've realised my frames are 1900 x 700. The closest doors I can find in the likes of wickes/b&q et'c are 1981 x 762 and come with the information 'you can trim up to 12mm in width and height'.

Obviously I need to trim more off to fit the frame.. what happens here? They are softwood internal doors, so I imagine they are hollow to some extent so would I be shaving off the chunk of pine around the edges, potentially exposing the hollow door? Anyone got any funky door frame sizes recommend an approach.. do I look at bespoke doors (££)?? All advice welcome! Thanks guys

I'd either look for another supplier who does some doors nearer to the size of your frame or find some solid wood doors which you can theoretically take off as much as you want.

Yeah from recent looking we ended up picking a different style of door. Also got someone in to fit them as we have no clue what we are doing and there's more to door fitting than just undoing a few screws and replacing them!

Lots of places do doors in a suitable size doors direct for example do Victorian style pine doors in 1981x711mm for £100 which a joiner will cut down in minutes. there is no point replacing you existing doors with cheap rubbish just for the sake of it.

To be fair, the existing doors are cheap rubbish :p and also covered in half peeled stickers, chunks missing, general 'last owner' care. Thanks for the heads up with directdoors, though their pine doors for £107 are still veneer, with a laminate core. They still have a limit on trimming but with the 711mm width i would be within the allowance.. but over double the price for the same materials i was eyeing up elsewhere :( looks like i'll have to wait for another month's paycheck!

OOps I thought those were solid wood! Have you considered second hand? local salvage places to me offer Victorian pine doors for 50-60 quid!
