I'm coming to the conclusion of the complete refurbishment of my flat and the very last thing on my list is to replace the existing internal doors, which are those horrible lightweight, dark wood kind so popular in the 1960s and 70s.

I'm sure I'll need someone to make adjustments to the doors, but can anyone recommend a place that supplies doors that are of both good quality and value? Howdens supplied my kitchen and I know they also do doors, but I don't yet know where they sit on the quality and value scale. However, this is the kind of design that I think would be suitable.

Any advice on things to look for would be most welcome as well.

Cheers!

You do know that Howdens only sell to the Trade?
BUT you can get an account fairly easily
Anyway be careful about which doors you go for a lot of doors are made of chip skinned with veneer:mad:
BIG con imho as they are never clearly labelled as such

Aren't most these days like that?

The woodchip skinned veneer feels weightier/better than the ones made of cardboard/frame internally at least :p

The main thing to do. Would be check your frame sizes are 35 or 45mm and frame widths. Height matters, but less if they're cutting it short imo. That assumes you're not replacing all the frames?

True
The hollow ones are easier/lighter to fit though:D

Most doors ARE veneered,i think it is just a con as the manufacturer does not state this on a lot of doors (i.e. they should state it is veneer, but most just say `wood`)

Thanks guys. I am absolutely not replacing all the door frames after having sanded and given each one 3 coats of paint!

I'll check out Doorworld Bristol, as although I'm in Hampshire I am from Bristol and my parents are still there.

Howdens doors are very good and if you need someone to fit them they should have an account.

Solid timber doors are pretty rubbish. They twist and shrink unless your spending lots of cash. A composite mdf door is more than adequate and you can go as fancy as you like with the veneers and ironmongery
