Hi,

I do have onboard LAN but it recently just gave up working. Someone suggested upgrading/downgrading my BIOS as that worked when they got the same error as I am having but I really don't want to do anything like that right now as the PC is running solid right now.

Anyway, I've been looking at internal network cards as currently I'm having to use a ethernet USB thing which does the job but as you can imagine it isn't as fast as copying files over the network etc.

I like the look of the bottom one on this page: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Network_Adapters.html ...

Is the one above that just as good but just without the ability to go 1GB as there's quite a price difference & we don't have a 1GB network hub so I really don't have any use for a 1GB card (although we could get a 1GB hub in the future).

Thanks,
Craig.

The 6 quid D-Link card will do the job fine. It's just a bog-standard 100mbit NIC whereas the others are bog-standard 1000mbit NICs. If you can't see yourself going gigabit anytime soon, just grab the D-Link or any other 100mbit card.

Hmm, in that case then will an old IBM network card work alright? I'm not sure of the specs, but I know it came out of an IBM Netvista (1.5GHZ) - I have looked up the part number on the internet and it seems it's 10/100 but I'm not 100% sure, any ideas if it is please?

Thanks,
Craig.

If it fits into one of your PCI slots and you can find drivers for it then it'll be absolutely fine :)

OK, cool. So i'm guessing there won't be any speed differences between that and my onboard one then?

Thanks,
Craig

Just put it in now, haven't tried copying anything over the netwrok to test difference between the usb ethernet adapter and the internal one but I'm pretty sure it'll be faster.

Windows picked up the drivers for this card & it's all working fine :)

Thanks,
Craig.
