Internal or external wireless card?

Hi,

I'm about to buy a basic PC for my mum, and I'll need to connect her up to the home hub (talk talk). Right now shes using a external wireless card, which sometimes connects sometimes doesn't (although I think that's down to the age of the computer which is about 8 years old), but what I'm unsure about is when I get her new PC with an internal wireless card or instead get an external card. Are there advantages/dissadvantages to one or the other? Could there be compatibility issues with using the internal card, and then I'll have to get an external one anyway?

always seem to get slightly better throughput with an internal card in my experience....however you'll always get much better speeds etc. if you can cable it up using ethernet matey...
