Internal VOPI system

I've been tasked with investigating an internal VOIP system to replace an aeging internal phone system.

The requirements are:

Connects to 1 BT phone line to receive incoming calls, and to route all outgoing calls as 'normal' phone calls over the BT line.

Have 8-10 internal extensions, so calls can be passed between, and users have voicemail

Not really sure where to start with this. All my research comes up with expensive solutions involving routing external calls through a VOPi provider, which isn't what is wanted.

Can anyone reccomend any hardware that I should be looking at to achieve what is wanted?

Thanks!

have you looked at asterisk? Needs a little linux knowledge.

Yeah, had a brief look at asterisk.part of me really likes the idea, as it looks massively configurable etc, and could be tinkered with endlessley, but as I don't want to have to spend hours supporting it when things go wrong, or extensions are added etc, I would prefer a more plug n play system

3CX runs on Win and has a free version, which you might find more accessible (albeit more limiting) than Asterisk. For standalone devices check Draytek IPPBX or Linksys SPA9000+400. Lots of devices work with SIP trunks for external telephony via a 3rd-party, but you'll want something with an FXO port to connect your existing line. You'll need to check the FXO port can be used for incoming calls not just outgoing.

If it is for a business that relies on the phone then I would strongly suggest going for higher end kit e.g. Cisco UC500 or even getting a pro in.
