Need abit of help here guys.

My sync speed plummeted to 520kbps, from usually about 5mbps.
Pulled out EVERYTHING from ALL sockets, still only 520kbps.
Using the master test socket, it syncs at 3.1mpbs.
According to the ISP, they say that is still slow. I've tried everything including master reset of the modem, flashing the firmware.
Odd thing is, the UP sync is still 1.2Mbps, and that hasnt changed at all.

My place is a new build (3 years), so the line is new. How do i go about finding what is going on and where the fault is internally? Dont want to re-wire the entire place, and i dont think i can use the test socket indefinitely.

If its still a lot lower than it should be even plugged into the master socket then I would say its down to BT

they did some "tests" remotely and said all was good.... no problems with the line...

Parents had some problem BT sent engineer after engineer round who all said no problem our end and left it at that, last engineer finally looked into the problem and it was the big green box on the street was the problem
just keep hassling BT

There shouldnt be a 3 meg difference between your master socket and other wiring. when its sorted consider upgrading your internal wiring!

Have you considered trying another router incase it has failed?

It could be interference elsewhere. Certain things interfere with ADSL frequencies. Phone line might be fine, just picking up some bad interference.

What model of router do you have? Some of them allow you to use software to monitor line frequencies.

google dmt tool. there are various other tools also for different chipsets.

I agree with vidda - same happened with me dad, was a dodgy filter after a couple of days of faffing about trying to suss the problem!

Mnd you it was probably quicker than calling Sky 'helpline' ;)

Unless your ISP is BT there's no point phoning BT. There's no one you can speak to that can help and you need to get your ISP to do the legwork if there's a fault with your ADSL service.

The reason BT dont take anything to do with it (unless you have BT broadband), is because the problem could be on the ISP's end - eg, noise margin change, faulty router, bad filter. If the 1st line tech guys cant get the issue sorted, they will usually escalate it to 2nd like who will likely do some more in-depth tests and send out a new router. If that fails, they then get BT involved and try and send engineers out.

Arrange for a BT engineer yourself and it'll cost you! Like tolien said, get your ISP to do the work for you. Might take a week or two but you wont have to deal with BT which is a good thing!

Especially if there's nothing wrong with your voice service, because that's all they'll be interested in.
It's cheaper to have a second router as backup (second hand) such as a broadcom chipset netgear DG 834 GT. If you call out BT and they deem it your side of their mastersocket you pay foldin money

Yea, i've changed (or rather swapped) the microfilters. I have 3 filters in total, so i unplugged all the other phones, only leaving the router. Then one by one tried each filter, assuming that ALL 3 wouldnt be faulty. No diff, only 0.5meg download.

Internal wiring is only 3.5 years old, this is a new build. I dont see how it should be broken so soon.

I'll keep chasing the ISP. They said they'll escalate it up and maybe send a new router.

We need to know your stats you should be able to get them from your modem it may be under properties or adsl status. We need to know you up and down noise db connection speed.
Plug in as normal and note the db then plug into master socket with nothing else plugged in and note the db again.
If the internal wiring has an orange wire on number 3 remove it see

Who is your ISp and are you on MAX DSL? If you are on max the exchange adjusts your speed all the time if you reconnect a lot messing about it thinks there is fault and lowers your speed it can take 4 days for it to get back to normal.
The one thing to try which everyone misses is the wire from your router/modem to the phone socket this can have vast effects picking up noise. You can buy a high quality cable like a USB that it super shielded and can make fantastic difference. I did one last week and the rate went up 2 meg.

A few phone calls to the bt chairmans office got the problems with my line sorted out. It turned out to be a faulty card in the dslam or something along those lines. I was on btbroadband at the time but they should still help. Always worth trying a different router but it does sound like the cause is external. Lets blame the nice weather melting things :D
