I was looking to get all my internal doors replaced and accepted a quote from a joiner who did some work on my parents property.

It was to:

Replace 9 internal doors (not solid type and standard sizes), take away old doors, use existing handles and locks.

Originally asked for Howdens cottage type doors but realised after he had fitted a few that they where in-fact Wickes one's at £30 each.

should have said something at the time but I just wanted them fitting no hassle and he did a good job.

Without going into how much I paid, any idea how much they would have cost for the Howdens doors as opposed to the Wickes one's?

If anyone could give me an estimate such as a top end price and an average price that would be most helpful to see how much i've overpaid.

surely if you asked for howdens doors he should have supplied them? did he give you anything saying howdens on it receipt wise?

It was all verbal, nothing written down. He just said he had located some doors which were cottage style with a woodgrain and I asked if they were Howdens and he just said 'yeah'.

Howdens are trade only so wondering how much of a price difference they are.

With Howdens you could get 10 people answer and they would all give a different price as Howdens give different prices and discounts to different people depending on account used, they are prob the same door just stamped Wickes instead,

There's probably only a few quid difference.

The Wickes ones seem very good quality - I fitted 10 for a mate a couple of months back with no issues

I had a load of these fitted, not sure if that's the style you mean. Would be best if you provide a link.

They are not from howdens they're from climadoor and we're about £115 supply plus £75+Vat fitted.

The wickes one's are white cottage style and supplied with just a primer finish, listed at £30 each on the website.

So 9 x £30 = £270 for doors + hinges + labour (one day it took)

How much you think it all should have cost?

About £35-£40 per door fitting depending on location so around £650?
I’ve read that trades charge between £40 and £80 per door. At £720 labour plus £300 for doors & hinges it’s almost what I paid. The joiner did work all day Saturday so may have charged me more.

In Surrey it's £80 for a door to be fitted and that's a pretty standard set price now.

The Howdens doors pictured above are available from absolutely everywhere, Travis, Benchmark, Wickes etc.... and range from about £70ish up to £100 with a bit extra if you want glass or an odd size.

I'd say £80 average for the door, £80 for fitting, £20 for furniture so you're looking at about £180 per door all in.

I'm amazed a joiner could fit 9 doors in a single day though, that would really worry me. Those Howdens doors pictures above are very heavy and require time and care to make sure they aren't damaged during fitting nor cut too much as either end. To do properly you're really looking at 90-120 minutes per door. I guess cheaper and lightweight doors would be a bit quicker.
