I think I am just being dumb here but I can't get my head around how to make this payment. I am trying to buy a bike from a German online store, but they charge £60+ to use paypal and around the same for credit card once bank charges are added. So I opted to pay by bank transfer as it is only a £22 charge for that by my bank for an international payment.
The problem is they sent the bank details and they are for a bank located in the UK . I emailed them and they said "You're welcome, the country is also UK", but surely its not an international bank transfer and I can just send a free transfer?

The issue with that is the details they sent are not in the normal format of bank account and sort code, so I'm a bit lost.

Here are the bank details they sent.

Bank Details:

depositor: YT Industries GmbH

bank name: UniCredit Bank AG, London Branch, Moor House; 120 London Wall; London EC2Y 5ET

account no.: 00000000

bank code: 000000

IBAN: ABCD ABCD 0000 0000 0000 00

BIC: ABCDEF0G

Accepted Currency: ONLY British Pound - GBP - £

Reference: Your order number and your name

It's a lot of money, so i just want to make sure I do it right. If anyone could tell me how I go about paying it, either a normal transfer or international transfer that would be great. Otherwise i'll just have to pay by paypal.

https://www.yt-industries.com/uk/

It is a legit company and from what i have read on forums they always sort out any problems if they occur. They deal diectly to the public, cutting out the middlemen, so their reputation is very important. I'm not worried about paying by bank transfer tbh and I don't have a credit card anyway.

That's what you would use for Acc. / Sort number.

Should be fine. In Germany it's quite common to BT a payment over. Company is very well known

Is it just a normal bank transfer then and not an international payment and the "bank code" is definitely the sort code? It's just confusing why the details they sent also include an IBAN. Plus I read on other forums of people from the UK paying by international bank transfer, but they might have changed it since then.

If it is just a normal transfer then it'll save me £22, that would be good as I could put it toward some pedals :).

You can do a normal transfer, yes. Your bank account will have an IBAN as well, if you ask for it. The address of their branch is UK and the currency is GBP so a normal transfer is fine.

The last 14 digits of the IBAN should be the sort code followed by account number:

Sc Acc
IBAN: ABCD ABCD {0000 00} {00 0000 00}

If that matches the sort code and account number given, I'd just make a standard bank transfer to them. I can't see why it would differ in this case.

I guess they have a uk bank account to make it easier to take payments from uk customers but the "international bank transfer" fee you're paying is for them to transfer from their gbp uk account into eur?

The fee is what RBS charge for a international transfer, but I shouldnt have to pay any fee if a normal bank transfer works.

Ahh, yeah that looks to sort of match what I have. The sort code is the same, but the account number is missing two zeroes from the front and the last two digits dont seem to match. Is it ok to post the real details or not a good idea on a forum? Might make it a bit easier.

Could be a correspondent bank account.

Its £22 for the economy 3-5 day international payment and £30 for the express transfer, no matter how much you send. Seems a rip off, so i am glad it seems I can just do a normal free transfer.

The bike is expensive though, although not compared to some of the higher models. I have had my current hardtail since 2006, so its about time for an upgrade.

it is a 6 digit code, the sort code is 6 digits ergo yes, I don't see what else it would be for a UK bank

if you want to confirm then look at the IBAN number they've given you - can you see the account number there, now look at the 6 digits in front of the account number, that is the sort code

the confusing thing is though, if you were expecting to make an international payment then presumably you were quoted a price in EUR... yet you're now going to make a payment in GBP - have they re-quoted you with a GBP price? (Also it is rather bizarre that they charge a hefty fee for credit cards)
