Possibly a silly question but failed to find a definite answer with a bit of googling so thought someone here might know..

Say you take two UK SIMs to Japan and connect to a Japanese network there - you wouldn't need to use the Japanese country code prefix to make calls between those SIMs would you? You would just call the number as normal since both in the same country?

Cheers :)

Yup...

Your UK number will start 07 when dialling from the UK. However you can also dial +447... which can be used anywhere in the world.

For that reason I've started saving all my contacts beginning with +44 (or whatever their country code is) so I don't need to faff around when I'm abroad.

some phones actually have a "dialer helper" that automatically dials the correct number. so you could have a UK number on your phone like 07.... and when you are roaming, it will dial it correctly for you. At least Windows Phone devices always do :D
