Man of Honour
I entered four pictures for this competition in October not expecting to go far. In November two of them got shortlisted and then in January I was informed that an entry had won an award – Commended, Highly Commended, Finalist, 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.
This morning I was amazed to discover that "The Sackler Crossing" had been awarded 1st Place in the Captured at Kew Category.
Earlier today I attended the press launch of the IGPOTY winners exhibition at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew where my picture is on display. I was also presented with a certificate and prize.
The exhibition opens to the public tomorrow and will tour the UK and abroad. My picture has also been printed in lavish book of the competition and has already appeared online:

I expect there to be lots more publicity in the days to come!
On to the good stuff:

The entry had been posted in this forum earlier this year.
I'm on cloud nine at the moment and don't expect to be back on the ground before next week.
Happy Friday!

The Sackler Crossing
Awarded 1st Place
International Garden Photographer of the Year
Competition 11
Category Captured at Kew
It was a very cold January morning in Kew Gardens as I stood on the north side of the lake, watching the sunrise over the Sackler Crossing. The vibrant reds of the foreground Cornus beautifully complemented the hues of the morning sky. The crossing was named after philanthropists Dr Mortimer and Dame Theresa Sackler, whose donation made its construction possible.
