Internet acting strange!

Hi,
recently (since this afternoon), my internet has stop loading a few pages, but most pages work.
myspace wont load up
hotmail wont log in
msn wont sign in
:S
but the rest seems to work fine!

any ideas?

i have another computer on the same wireless network using the same internet connection and these things work fine on that computer.

no settings have been changed either :S

Check dns, can you resolve hotmail and myspace?

hotmail.com points to: 64.4.33.7 / 64.4.32.7
myspace.com points to: 216.178.38.116 / 216.178.38.121 / 216.178.38.104

Can you access the sites through those IP's?


Maybe a long shot, but might be worth doing a spyware / virus scan.
 
Yer, myspace loads up if i use those IPs.
However, it then wont login :(

I haven't changed my dns settings, however i have tried using the 'aquire dns automatically' setting in my wireless network settings, but the same happens.

I don't think it's a problem with the computer itself, when i plugged it directly into my lan modem it worked fine.
and i don't think it's my interent because another computer on the same wireless network works fine.

i'm really confused :confused:

Deffernatly sounds like a DNS setting to me! Check the settings on the other machine, is it being assigned an IP automaticly or is it manually assigned?

Make sure the faulty machine has the same settings and is looking for the dns in the same plance.
 
Your DNS server is most likely your ISPs DNS Server, if your using a router then im guessing that your DNS is set to that which is caching from the ISPs DNS Server.

Try giving your ISP a ring to see if there are any known issues / outages in your area?

Your could also specify a different DNS Server in your router or even for a single host on your network, you can get this from your ISP as well.

Also check your hosts file, make sure no spyware has edited it, cant remember exactly where it is and ive not got access to a windows machine at the moment as im at work and only use linux :)
 
The internet is fine, the other computers using it work fine :confused:, and they all have the same settings, which is really strange.
Nothing has been changed, this just decided to happen all of a sudden!

i've even tried swapping the dns servers round so the the computer uses the secondary dns but no luck.
 
try opendns servers? 207.67.222.222/207.67.220.220 iirc, i had problems with my VM couple of weeks ago where internet wouldnt work but IPs would.

I've got the same problem as you mate internet works but certain websites such as the ones you mentioned seem to have stopped working and messenger has given up the ghost. My mates is working fine though.

Just running ad-aware to check for anything dodgy.

Any idea's

Both of you on entanet or a visp of entanet? If so theres a problem affecting it.

I can't currently access ebay or messenger.
 
I phoned them and made them aware of the problem, they're currently working on it.
 
i'm using Fast4's dial up service with 64k ISDN.
I can't access ebay either! or msn...myspace etc.

but my other computer on the same internet can! how weird.
Gonna do a virus scan with mcafee and see what it comes up with :)
