Internet Atheism

You sound like an incredibly petty, weak and vindictive person. All admirable traits/qualities of the person who's currently championing Christianity (religion) in this thread.

Its a troll account for certain. He certainly inst representative of the group of people he claims to be part of. His (if indeed it is a he) sole intention is to get people's back up by pretending to be a fundamentalist Christian. How have you not seen that yet?

Flame suit engage!

Anyone else noticed that if you're the slightest bit religious on the Internet you're branded as a backward yokel?

This isn't just about OcUK but here here's a good example: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18483435

Now I'm not religious and believe in evolution, but accept that some people don't and think that god may have created everything a few thousand years ago and did it so well as to fool science to this day. Why does the Internet have such a problem with people who have a non-standard opinion on religion?

Note: this isn't a debate about which viewpoint is right on the subject of evolution, but whether the Internet is unfairly rude to those who disagree.

Confused as to why you think that people suddenly stop having this opinion when they are not using the internet.

Poe's Law is coming into play quite hard right now. I started to get my suspicions a page or two back, but the discussion is still relevant and the OP raised a question worth discussing.

As I said, even if he is trolling... people like that still exist within the world, haha. :D

All I can say is read the bible and then look around you. Everything predicted would happen is happening. Just look at how much moral boundaries are pushed every year. The whole world is heading straight to hell.

Well perhaps. I would say that it was worth discussion once over or maybe just once but it gets done at least once a week and degenerates fast.

Specific examples please

Again as I suggested, it's either an Atheists way or no way. There's no room for others opinions to exist side by side within atheism, very unaccepting.

Always discussions like this the end with a bunch of people ganging up and attacking someone because their opinion is different.

The hypocracy is staggering.

But according to Christianity I'll be sent to hell for non belief. Free will is therefore pointless.

How exactly? If you have the ability to accept or reject God then that is free will. I have the free will to go out tonight and commit a crime, yet I know I will pay the price for whatever crime I was to commit. This doesn't mean I don't have free will.

What are you on about. Are you confusing "refusing to covert your religion" with closed mindedness?

Atheism is simply a matter of God's existence, it doesn't even have anything to do with religion as a whole and god either exists or he doesn't, so by definition an atheist and a theist can't reach a consensus.

But what is the use in free will being granted by a God if my decision ends up with me in hell for eternity?

When you say you will be punished for a crime, do you mean my the law? According to your belief system you can escape any form of punishment for even the most heinous of crimes through confession, at least by your God.

Please do tell me where i have suggested this? Thats quite simply as i discussed before a perception felt by Athiests because of thier own personal short comings with what ever that may be.

It's not about reaching a consensus, its about simply co-existing, which quite frankly there is no scope within Athiesm.

Read on and you will find that Jesus himself said that even many who profess him to be Lord will not be entering heaven. If a man is sincere in his repentance he can be forgiven due to the sacrifice of Jesus, but no where have I ever said simple belief in Jesus gets you to heaven.

God knows the heart of men. If someone goes out and commits a crime and says "well God will just forgive me", then he won't be heading to heaven. God aint no fool.
