Internet behaving weird: can connect and search on Google, but no other sites load. [Solved]

So basically I've had this computer for years, on dozens (literally) of different networks, and never had a problem connecting to the internet. But today I moved it to my girlfriend's house, and today she also got internet for the first time; from Sky. The line was activated today, and instantly both our phones and her laptop got full connectivity through the wireless.

My computer, however, is connected via the ethernet (as it normally is on other networks) but no sites work bar Google and Youtube. On Google I can search for anything, and the results load instantly, however clicking on any links causes it to say "Loading..." for ages and never actually loads any other sites. Also, on Youtube the videos never load, though the pages for said-videos work fine.

What's really particular is that if I tether my phone to my PC I can access the internet absolutely fine and completely, if a little slowly, through the wireless. Though this really isn't a long-term solution.

[edit]Oh, and I've since run a host of antimalware software, including (but not limited to): SUPERAntiSpyware, avast!, Malwarebytes Antimalware, rkill, RogueKiller and tdsskiller. None of them found anything bar a couple cookies. I've also flushed my DNS, tried turning off IPv6, restarting the PC and router in various orders, resetting the router, turning off all firewalls, and updating all my drivers (specifically focussed on the ethernet drivers).[/edit]

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Changed both IPv4 and IPv6 to the Google public DNS servers (i.e., the ones you suggested) to no avail.

Also, I can successfully ping any site, and I get RTTs of about 50ms.

Also; Steam couldn't log on or do anything earlier. I then Tethered my internet via my phone, logged in on steam and started a download. I then disconnected the Tether completely, and the download is still going (at over 1MB/s!) and I'm still logged in to Steam.

I have found that Combofix is one of the best antimalware software to use to clear out nasties. How ever saying that not sure if its a malware issue.

Can you run a traceroute to a site like bbc.co.uk and post the output here. Also how does your network settings look for the ethernet adapter if you do ipconfig /all
 
Yeah I'm 99.99% certain it's not malware. I -never- get malware on this PC as I'm super careful about how I browse and such, after lots of experience getting plenty on previous machines :P

Also on a side-note, before I resorted to posting here and wasting valuable forum space, I searched the web far and wide for this issue, and found dozens and dozens of people with the same problem, but none of them had a conclusive solution :(
 
Don't know if its related but seems to be some issues at the moment - on my BT Infinity connection half the sites I usually visit are extremely slow loading and/or timing out, several games are slow connecting and ones that use multiple content provisioning like eve online randomly disconnect.

At a guess theres an issue with linx ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Internet_Exchange ).
 
Huh, weird, though it seems a bit peculiar that through the same router three other devices (two smart phones and a laptop Windows 7 (the same OS as the afflicted PC)) are completely unaffected. That said, one or two of the other threads I found about this issue said that after a few months the issue just completely disappeared overnight, so maybe it could be an ISP issue; here's hoping, and here's hoping they solve it soon!
 
I would download a Ubuntu live cd and boot the PC up with it and check what happens with the net connection to rule out any software issues on the PC. Also have you tried the working laptop using wireless hardwired to the router ?
 
@KIA: All regular settings as far as I know; no idea what VPN is. Would've looked it all up, had I not had a massive revelation due to Dangerous Dave's post.

@Dangerous Dave: Plugged in the working laptop via ethernet, turned off the wireless, and boom: exactly the same issue. Google worked but nothing else. So I'm going to ring up Sky (my ISP) and request a new router. Something -has- to be awry with it.
 
Did you get this sorted, sounds like LANMAN on the lan is affected and wireless is unaffected, potentially a seperate lan/dhcp and dns handler...

Does it get ip addresses slowly when the computer turns on, or work near enough instantly?
 
I hate to revive a (relatively) long dead thread, but for those with a similar problem in the future, I thought I should share my conclusion.

A BT engineer came round and line tested my line, only to discover that the phone number it was using was totally different to the one Sky had given us. Not only that, but there was also some issue at the exchange. A few days later another engineer finally decided to bother going to the exchange, and within 5 minutes fixed whatever was broken, and instantly my internet started working with no issues at all.

TLDR: Problem in telephone exchange (NOT in PC), needed ISP/line-provider to fix it.
