Internet being throttled, need advice

im always wrong ... well so she tells me
;)

If you can get ADSL2+ go for it ... I myself tried but Be/o2 knocked me back saying they could not supply it .... Im now moving to ADSL2 with ADSL24 (ISP) via Be and for me this means no more IP Profiling .... so nomore IP Profile 750 when i can connect on average at 1100+ :)

Give Be/o2 a call and ask them ... no point trying online as its bound to knock you back if you are at the extreme range.

No problem mate ... good luck. Oh and like I said if in any doubt try ADSL24 first that way you should get an instant improvement and only a one month contract ... ok it wont be as cheap as some but you only have to pay it 1 month to see.

just a quick update you's might chuckle at. I phoned Eclipse up about my MAC, and they claimed im being throttled because I downloaded 90gb last month. I nearly choked :p 90GB? I haven't used the internet in 3 months because of getting 12kps!

Soon I'll be free, 30 days and they'll email the MAC to me

Pete you got a wireless router and if so do you leave it on ?

nope, wires all the way baby :D
*quickly runs down to make sure there isn't an extra wire*

I think they just made a slight miscalcuation. Maybe it was 9mb in 1 month and they accidently added on a couple of million zeros :p

Be unlimited, thanks for the advice on picking them :p
Do I need to tell them over the phone I want the LLU and ADSL2+ (even while typing that I know thats probably an incrediably stupid question, but hey!)

4.3 kilometres but thats in a straight line so it will be longer .... and remember that Im changing onto Be network through ADSL24 so it is possible .... even now with ADSL24 Im on 1MB connection ... ok to most thats crap but when you are used to 512 and throttled its great. :)

No. With Be, you either get the LLU service or get nothing and (at least on Unlimited and Pro) you get ADSL2+ by default.

Pete any hassle or any questions feel very free to email me .... click on trust button then 'click to send message' .. ok bud

As mentioned before Im swapping over to LLU ADSL2 through the BE network with ADSL24

Before the throttling I was getting 200kps at the most, 50 on average :D

And thanks man for all the help! I owe you lunch or something ;) You've been my personnel advisor :D

pete, i'm with Be - can you tell us how far you are from the nearest exchange using this map: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/mapping/mapping.php

If you miles away then as above i think Be will advise against ADSL2+ as you will not fit the min for it to work as intended. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think that ADSL2+ exponentially degrades as you get further away from the exchange. From memory, Be advise at some point that it is not worth changing you for ADSL2+ when you may as well use ADSL.

As said above, have you thought about using Sky?

You are approximately 1.96km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

And what would the advantage of sky broadband be? (I have no idea about broadband companies anymore :D )

If you have Sky TV, you can get their ADSL for nothing.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think that ADSL2+ exponentially degrades as you get further away from the exchange.

It's not "exponential", but there is a point where you're not going to get any benefit (in terms of speed at least) over ADSL (and more importantly, Be can't be bothered dealing with you).

I don't have Sky TV, i'm a deprived child :p
I'll phone them up after the weeked and ask them to check out what sort of speeds I would expect.

God bless "study" leave :p
