Ok my uncle has 2 pc's. Both connected to net via a router. The on upstairs working fine and suddenly the one downstairs isnt. Ive gone through the usual settings to check things (tho they are pretty plug and play) and cant find anything wrong. Anything I might be missing?

Cheers

Sori im not great when it comes to software. How do I check these things?
I dont even know the Router IP to get into that and hes lost teh manual, any ideas on the IP for a belkin router? 192.68. ?.? I cant see to get in

Probably something like 192.168.2.1.

You can check by going to the computer that works and going into a Command Prompt and typing IPCONFIG /ALL. The default gateway is the IP for the Router.

Cheers. im in onrouter setting from other PC. But the one that doesnt work wont let me in to routers settings, only teh one upstairs is. Ive rebooted router and taken off all security and still nothing

Right. Because DHCP is on, there may a conflict with the IP addresses.

On either of the PCs, is an IP being specified on the Adaptor?

My Network Places > View Network Connections > Right click on Adaptor > Properties > Double click on 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP'.

Also can you ping websites, such as google?

How is the PC upstairs connected? Is it wired or wireless?

Have you typed ipconfig or ipconfig /all to see the status of the network connection?

The one working upstairs is connected wirelessley and teh one downstairs not working is via a cat5 into router. Cheers for all this help guys. Keep the surgestions coming please

Ive typed in IPCONFIG/ALL and one upstairs shows more info than one downstairs, anything in particular I should let you know ?

Swinnie- Have done as you said and both show get IP adress automatically like you have setup
