Hi all,

Recently my mums connection has been having problems with the phone, basicly when the phone rings it disconnects the broadband. So swapped out the micro filters and its been fine for a while.

Now its got weird. The router in on an extension upstairs (i know this isnt the best way of doing it but its been this way for 10 years without a problem) and when you remove the microfilter from the socket downstairs and plug it in again it drops the connection to the internet and the router has to resync again.

Now ive tried new filters, new phone, new router, even ran a new RJ45 cable upstairs as the BT extension but still this happens. Its not instant it takes about 5 seconds after re connecting the filter downstairs before the connection drops upstairs.

Can anyone help on this im a bit stuck.

Thanks

Hi

you've not explained yourself properly. It reads like you unplug the router extension downstairs and the internet drops, one would then think, thats obvious.

Which socket downstairs do you remove the ADSL filter from ? The one the router is plugged into or another one ? Also where is the phone plugged in ? Same one as the router or a different one ? Whats plugged into the master socket ?

I take it the master socket is not one with a built in ADSL filter ? ie an ADSL socket and normal phone socket.

Sorry,

The master socket is downstairs with just a filter and phone connected. The extension to upstairs is a physical extension (connected inside the master socket) with just the router plugged into it. So the master and upstairs socket should be stand alone. When I remove the phone and filter from the master socket and reconnect it, it disconnects the internet upstairs, only when re connecting it it drops. I can leave the phone unplugged and it will not effect it. Now I plugged a phone in upstairs and that keeps a constant dial tone its just the internet that disconnects. It re syncs straight away but does drop.
