Internet connection problems with Sky (Netgear) Router

I have Sky broadband using the standard issue Netgear router.

Whilst using the internet it will work fine then after a couple of hours or so the connection to the internet will stop.

This happens whether I'm using the computer connected to the router or via wireless. It also happens when I'm using my slingbox away from home.

Basically I'm limited to a short period of use before I have to reset the router.

I've read many similar threads but nothing has really given me an answer.

I've moved recently and the router worked fine in the old house IIRC but the new connection in the new house is faster (6.5Mb vs 4Mb).

I have an identical router from beforeI joined sky. Is there any way I can copy the settings over to try the new router?

Is there any other advice anybody can give.....if I can change any setting on the Sky router...which ones should I change?

Thanks for that. Did a fair bit of reading around last night from a google search. Plenty of things to try...will let you know how I get on.

P.S. Since I have an identical router not from sky I may have a fiddle with the settings on that. Apparently you can get all the details from the locked sky router despite their efforts.
 
Interesting stuff this guys..will be fiddling for hours when I get home tomorrow.

I think we all know the score...you start at something because it doesn't work, it then develops into a tuning/overclocking session :)
 
Well I ended up using my old router which seemed to solve my internet connection woes...however I cannot remotely connect with my slingbox.

This is very frustrating to sort as I have to go off site to see if I can connect
