Hi folks, hope everyone had a great Christmas and Happy New Year too.

Have a query about internet connection sharing. At the moment in my parents place we have and Window XP machine and getting internet throught and AOL ADSL Modem which they've had for years (afaik its a BT voyager 105 USB modem) getting about 6.5mps. My brother is back home now for a few weeks and wants to connect his Windows 7 laptop to net for some browsing and online gaming.

Rather than buying a modem router, was wondering if there is any other way of connecting up the two machines to share an internet connection. The reason I'm not bothering with a wireless router is that they'll be moving out in a few weeks anyway and we'll be looking for a new ISP anyway then.

From looking around it looks like it can be done but I don't know how. Read a few guides and followed them but hasn't worked just yet. Been using a patch RJ45 Cat5e cable and came across somewhere where it said that I would need a crossover Cat5e RJ45 cable like this? Any ideas or help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

On the PC with Wireless AND Ethernet, connect the Pc to the internet by one means, and the laptop to the PC by the other means (easiest is PC wireless, laptop ethernet)

then, on the desktop Pc (the middleman) go to the internet adapter properties, and enable connection sharing)

Everything else should sort itself out.
