Hello,
Firstly some background...
I have two computers running Windows XP connected via a switch. One of them is connected to the internet using a usb modem.
The problem...
I had the internet connection shared so that I could use the connection on both computers, this was working fine until today. For some reason I can no longer connect through the shared internet connection on the computer not directly connected to the internet.
Things I have tried...
-Repairing the internet connection on both computers.
-Using the ipconfig /renew command at the command prompt.
-Using the 'set up a home or small office network' wizard.
When I do any of these on the client computer, it is unable to get an IP address in the correct range (192.168.x.x) and instead defaults to one of the automatic ones (169.x.x.x), which I understand XP uses when it can't obtain one from the DHCP server.
-Manually setting the IP address to 192.168.0.x
This is possible and allows me to ping the computers and share files/printers but does not make the internet work.
I've completely exhausted all my networking knowledge so any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Thanks
Phil
