Internet crippled suddenly

Suddenly over the past few days my internet on my wireless PC (Windows 10) has been crippled. Usually I would get 20Mbps from Speedtest.net but now I'm lucky to get 5! There are two other wireless computers in the house and they are all running around the 20Mbps mark so I don't believe the problem to be the supply.

Having ran Malware bytes and Spybot it hasn't really picked anything up and I'm a bit stuck on how best to proceed.

Anything thoughts would be much appreciated.

N.B Not sure if this thread belongs to Windows or network subsections.

is this a recent update to windows 10 ?

i had something similar, when other devices were connected mine were really slow

test.. remove other devices from your router and see if your speed improves

I've been running Windows 10 since day one without any issue. The problem only occurred during the last week.

Yes there, are two other PCs connected to the router but they are currently switched off.

This is the latest speed test: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4835021677

not sure its the same issue i had then.

try, to terminate things running in the background one by one and see if that makes any difference.

Not sure what impact it would make but I'm wondering whether your Windows 10 is still seeding Windows Updates to the internet? I've always disabled it so can't say for sure whether it would cause this kind of slowness but worth checking your Windows Updates settings nonetheless...

Thanks for the suggestions. I've had a play and in fact the cause seemed to be the USB socket that I was plugged into. I swapped it by accident and suddenly my internet speed went from 1-5 Mbps to 20ish!

Thanks for all your help :)

All comes down to the USB socket eh?

Glad you got it sorted. Thread title gained my attention as our internet line started playing up last night. BT have said it's a known issue they are looking into.

It seemed to be the USB socket. I haven't swapped it back to the other USB port as it is working correctly now, but I might try and slow it down again just to make sure.
