Internet dies when playing Arma 3

My previous setup was my cable modem (Virgin Media Superhub) in modem mode connected to my Asus RT N66U. After playing on a server a few times, it took forever to connect to it. Almost 30 minutes of attempt and retry. After some investigation, it turned out it was the Asus router which was, for some reason, causing trouble.
I removed it, put the Superhub back to router mode and used that. Connected nearly instantly. Fantastic.
Problem is now when I use the server browser in game, or play the game for long enough, my internet will die, but not completely. Every website will fail to load, rrs feeds won't work and the ingame browser finds no servers, but teamspeak will still function. I've read I need to change the "In game server browser max pings" setting it steam to something lower, which I did. I've now put it at its lowest, I've also disabled flood protection on the router firewall and still it happens. It has gone from taking half an hour to connect to a server for the internet to die when I am connected. And while the game still plays online fine during this, I have to quit the game and wait 10/15 minutes before my internet returns.
What can I do to fix this?

Pinging servers uses a UDP request, if there's thousands of servers that the serverlist is trying to ping then the router could be picking it up as a UDP flood (DoS).

The game packets are usually UDP too and Arma2/3 sends a fair bit of data to and from the server. (My old DayZ server used to use 5tb/month).

I've never really been through the Superhub settings but is there anything in the firewall for a threshold for UDP packets?

For example, there's the following on my work's DrayTek router.

69uuX

You could possibly try disabling the firewall altogether.

Thanks for that. Would disabling the firewall put my PC at any risk?
Here are my current settings.

Disable Port Scan Detection.

Just tried that. Same thing happens. Only thing I can guess is to once again get another router and put the "Superhub" in modem mode again. More money I don't have. Incredible.

Turn the firewall off completely, you're running NAT and there's no way a bundled router is doing DPI worth a damn anyway. It's offering you no protection.

Where was it I read something about ARMA or DayZ and Virgin? I *think* it's something to do with the firewall treating your server choice page as a flood attack due to the multitude of responses from different ports.

Turning firewall off isn't something I would reccommend but a router should be able to have particular things turned off, maybe flood attack to try and see if that is the cause?

Thread bump.

I get the same thing when refreshing server lists for Arma 2 and 3 with my superhub, would even happen on my old ASUS router. Someone did once mention that it could be the router simply not being powerful enough to cope workload rather than it detecting a false threat.

I'm going to be buying a new router sometime next week and i'm hoping whatever i get will be up to the task.

I dug up an old Trendnet router I had in a cupboard. I put that on, put superhub in modem mode and the problem has been solved, completely.
I tried every setting on the superhub but it is not up to the task, clearly.
Anyone serious about gaming should put this POS is modem mode and get a 2nd router as a matter of priority.
