I tick a box saying 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings'.

This is when right clicking the connection, going to properties, and Wireless Networks.

My dad is having problems with it, not a massive issue, but it is a pain that he has to tick this box every time he wants to go on the internet. I tried googling but no luck.

He is on Windows XP, any help is appreciated. :)

Try this, right click my computer and then click manage, double click services and applications, doubleclick services. look down to the bottom and find wireless zero configuration and doubleclick it. Change startup type to automatic. Now the service should start automatically upon each reboot.

^a lot of xp laptops have **** software which try to take over wireless functions. Most will have the option to let windows take back control

is it turning off the lan port to save power?might be worth checking the power saving in xp,minimal hardware setting i think its called,or might be in the lan/device settings

What? Its wireless he is talking about,
And so 3rd party software is set to configure the wireless network not Windows Zero Config.

As has been suggested I would think something else is taking control of the Wireless card. Check for running program's in the system tray first then msconfig.

As others have said, it's probably bloatware which is causing the issue as others have said. Have the same problems at work when we receive the laptops from Dell to configure. Just uninstall the software or let windows manage the connections and restart the wzc service :)

Uninstall configfree, reboot then tick the 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings', this time it will stick permanently.
