Hello folks.

Using IE11 here. (I know the obvious solution is to use another browser - but humour me :D).

Previously I was able to click and hold down a tab and then DRAG it out of the existing Internet Explorer window and it would then create a NEW IE window.

However now, its not letting me do this at all.

Ive googled for any solutions but could not find anything, I was hoping someone here may have come across this issue? Any advice would be appreciated!

EDIT: There is a reg edit which I found here but when I change TABGROWTHPROC in Regedit from 0 to 1, and then restart, it reverts back to 0!
So annoying.

Menu > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset

Sorts most problems with IE :D

Wish it was that simple folks, done that a gillion times with no dice :(

Can I confirm with you guys that this should be working no problem? (on your IE11 for example?)

Yes 100%, PIA as I rip tabs off by mistake nearly every day and they open a new IE window.

Are you running any add-ons that can be causing this?

Run IE without add ons to try it.

Weird thing is if I edit TABPROCGROWTH from 0 to 1 in regedit, it works fine!
But then when I restart Windows, TABPROCGROWTH resets to 0!

The only TABPROCGROWTH I can find is a REG_SZ set as 'Medium' in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UnattendBackup\TabProcessGrowth
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UnattendBackup\TabProcessGrowth

Is that the same one? Have you tried setting it to Medium instead of using a bool?

I know you've sorted with group policy, but you shouldn't need to!

Thanks Craig321.
Actually its neither of those. (from memory I think its HKLM\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Main\TPG

Something like that.

Whatever I set it to, it would revert back to 0 automatically.
And yes you're right I shouldn't need to with a group policy, but I wonder if something happened on my rig which altered this group policy.

The policy is called "Set tab process growth" in group policy, under User Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > IE > Set tab process growth.

According to the entry it can be set to low, medium high or default. Or possibly an integer.
Havent tried the non integer values yet.

I have yes... by formatting/reinstalling at the end :D
For some reason I was getting a lot of agro with flash based apps such as youtube. Loading excessively slow and bogging down my rig which has plenty of ompf.
