Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate Now Available

MS sent me an email todya advertising IE9, and in no part of the mail did they suggest it was an RC, or anything bar a completely finished product.

Somewhat odd, I use IE8 currently and I am sure I shall update, but likely I shall await the windows update option for upgrading.

I'm getting too many "not responding, close now" errors using IE9 RC. I've had to uninstall and revert back to IE8.

From error log>
"Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version: 9.0.8080.16413, time stamp: 0x4d4ceeab
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bdbdf
Exception code: 0xe06d7363"

I've been using IE9 RC for the past few days now. Not sure about it compared to FF or Chrome really.

If Firefox 4 starts as quickly as Chrome and IE then i'll be going back to that

I've got 2 problems with IE9, can anyone else replicate these?

1. When full screening a youtube video it puts the video back to the start.
2. When the suggestions appear on youtube search, i can't click them, i have to navigate down with the arrow keys or it doesn't select.

That's a YouTube feature, it happens in FF, Chrome & IE. When you make a video full screen it ups the quality, so has to reload.

Searching for something in YouTube and clicking a suggestion works fine for me.

I've noticed some odd text rendering issues around Windows after installing the RC, the same happened with the BETA and I recall others here having noticed the same too. Sidebar Widgets on the desktop, for example, will look like as if the text is not running on cleartype, some widgets like Top Process will do odd things like appear invisible too.

Uninstalling IE9 brought everything back to normal.

If the final has the same bug I just won't bother updating to IE9.

I'm on a dual screen setup btw with a GTX460 and latest Forceware and all things up to date running SP1 RTM. This issue happened pre-sp1 as well.

+1

Exact same issues, so uninstalled and everything back to normal again :D

Chrome *** :p

EDIT:

I put ***, which obviously stands for "For The Win" :p

I've noticed a few text issues as well since installing the RC, just within IE9 though, not outside of the browser, didn't have the problems with the last IE9 beta/preview (whatever it was).

The ugly UI isn't the only ugly truth about IE9 :p

Indeed, all true. But all not particularly relevant to the majority of users. Whilst Firefox is more standards compliant, IE9 has process separation, a smoother UI and lower memory demands. Those things are more important in the real world than SVG animations and border images. I've always used Firefox, but even I have to acknowledge that the gap between it and what's expected of a modern browser is getting wider, not narrower.

Absolutely not, I buy my MS software and OSes for example.
I just don't like IE9 especially the way it's being marketed (and followed by users) as the best and top standards compliant browser when it isn't! - All because it's passing tests created by MS during IE9's development.

Oh and as for the UI, it certainly isn't the smoothest UI Mattus!
FF4, Chrome and Opera all have smoother UIs - Unless of course in the IE9 RC, the UI is unfinished, in which case I'll hold this view until the final is out :)
