A friend of mine has problems with I.E. when they type an address in they get a message saying that internet explorer was unable to connect to the server. The machine is connected to the internet and they can update software. Any ideas people ?

Extremly odd.

Is all there broadband drivers installed right?
Its connected to a Dlink modem/router with a LAN cable. they can update the anti-virus without any problems but, just cant seem to view websites with Internet Explorer. I've run out of things to try.

Have you checked under Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab, that its set to Never Dial a connection, and the LAN settings are set to Automatically detect? If those settings arnt set, then I dont think IE will pick up the broadband connection. Hope that helps. :)

Yeah, done all those things and still not having any joy! I've tried everything I can think of but, nothing has cured it.
