Internet explorer using 6 gig of ram

Hey peeps!

The other day I was on my desktop and windows 7 freaked out and said it was low on memory and asked me if I wanted to close a program, seeing as I have 6 gig of ram (3x 2gig sticks in tri chan) and I only had winamp and internet explorer open I was obviously quite confused.

I opened task manager and in the performance section I could see I was using 5.9 gig of ram, I then switched to the processes and saw nearly all of that 5.9 gig being used for one single window of internet explorer which was idle on a fully loaded wikipedia page.

So far this has been a one off occurrence but I am very curious to know what could cause something like this.

Yes I could just not worry about it and yes I could use firefox instead but I have more interest in learning =)

I did also take screenshots as I was slightly amazed.

Ideas??? Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Probably an add-on going mental. Go into IE options -> Programs tab -> Add-ons and disable any toolsbars etc.

I have never encountered this issue using firefox or chrome

I have never encountered this issue using internet explorer.
I have encountered something like it with Firefox though!

If its only a 1 off, then I wouldn't worry. However, as mentioned, get rid of pointless toolbars!

Thanks,

I wasnt worried Im just really curious to know what would cause it, I dont have any toolbars apart from a bing one that W7 will not allow me to disable.

I know it could be disabled in the registry if I really wanted to spend the time toying with it.

I geuss its not a very common thing, my jaw totally dropped when I saw it lol
