Hi, im on sky broadband and im running vista.
when im on the net, the netgear router keeps switching off. By off i mean the green light that looks like an i with a circle round the bottom of it.
When i wait for it to come back on the internet works again. Can anyone please shed some light on this very annoying problem please

Your losing sync with the exchange. This is probably caused by poor line quality or internal wiring.
What are your line stats. Log in to the router and go to router status and show statistics.

Are you using any extension cables between the master phone socket and the router?

Changes you have made recently?

Diagram of everything connected to your phone line (eg sky tv box etc) with filter positions?

Its all the same as its been for about 2 years now thats why im not convinced its the line.
Are the router stats about right as they mean nothing to me

Im connected straight into the bt box with quality cable. Could it be the ethernet driver

No, your ethernet card/driver shouldn't affect the sync to the exchange. It's most likely either a faulty router or a problem with the connection itself. Sky aren't a highly regarded ISP so I'd put my money on them being the problem.

Your isp can do a line test. If this passes, they wont talk to you further until you tell them you have tested the router off the master socket with no other devices connected (and swapped the filter over). I'd do this before calling them if its easy enough to move the router there.

Kinda of sounds like a issue i had a while back.
Basically internet stopped working like random times often in a 2-3 period and didnt turn back on from 10mins-4hours later.
Did all the above directly into the master socket and filters and everything.#
Phoned the ISP (talktalk) and it was a isssue with their side of things, they said they had put to high bandwidth allocation onto our line and caused to crash frequently.
They had to manual set it at something more resonable.
So yeah if you have done all the above advice. Ring up Sky asking for a line check and i would say a fault on their side of things.
And that remind me i have to phone mine as my speed has decreased from 4MB to 2MB and aint happy.
Have fun.

I love when people say this :p Ever hear of deterioration from use?

If you can, try a different cable between the router and the phone socket. If it still drops out, try the test socket. If it still drops out, ring Sky and get them to check the line for drops in sync. It could still a faulty router, mind, but if it's one of those Sky supplied Netgears then they should be able to replace it if that's where the problem lies.
