Internet keeps locking up in vista

I'm sorry to ask here but I'm flumoxed. My internet connection locks out after my computer being left alone for a while.

I have turned off my firewall, checked my router, etc etc but can't isolate the problem. The ports that skype and news work on still function when my web browsers stop. I can't think whats causing it.

Do you think its the driver for the ethernet controller on the motherboard?
 
Just wondering, in the Network and Sharing Center, there is a graphic which shows:

Computer Name >>>>> Multiple Networks >>>>> Internet

When everything is functioning, the lines between (shown by the >>>>> above) are green, otherwise a cross appears to show dropped connectivity. Does a cross appear between the Multiple Networks and Internet stages when your connection goes down?

Some keep alive system is going down here.

what firewall are you using i was using zonealarm and that was locking my system up so that might be your problem
