What im after is a internet usage monitor that i can use on my home network. Im after a program that will log all internet usage on all ip's connected, i would like to be able to block sites when required, set specific internet access times to individual ip's. All of this i would like to be able to do from my pc without having to install anything on the 2 other pc's. Does anyone know of any programs that can do this ?? Much appreciated

Some routers will do exactly what you want but if yours doesn't you'll be hard pushed to do much without installing something on the client PC's. You see when one of the other PC's wants to connect to a site it doesn't ask your PC for permission to do so unless your PC handles routing for your LAN ?

More info would help us help you.

Thanks for the reply, what other info would you be after as i thought my post was quite specific in what i wanted.

How your network's set up and what router (if any) you're using would be a start, though why it was so urgent that you expected a reply within 7 hours (especially when 4 of them were after midnight) would make for an interesting answer too.

Avalon's pretty much bang on the money: it needs to be something centralised, either installed on a router, or installed on a machine that every machine needs to go through to get to the outside world (which more or less makes that machine a router :p). If you can't do that, it needs to be installed on each machine.

Although i appreciate your answers i dont really see what relevance the above question has..............Thanks for your replys

Look at the times between your OP and the bump?
S'pose you could condense it to "show some bloody patience".

I bumped the post at that time as i happened to be on nightshift and noticed my post was slipping way down the page. Tolien whats your problem with me bumping my post ? If i choose to do that then its of no business to you, all i want is an answer and not an inquistion as to how urgently i want it ! And just what 4 replys are you refering to as you were only the second person to reply...........that would make for an interesting answer too !

Because yours isn't the only thread in this forum, bumping a thread not long after it was posted pushes another one onto page 2 and it's generally considered rude?

What?
I didn't say anything about 4 replies...

Have a look at CensorNet which is free or SurfControl which isn't.

Censor net requires a dedicated PC (although you might be able to run it using VM ware or something liek that). Surf Control runs on windows, I don't think it requires you to be using a server version of windows, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, if you can get to the settings for the machines (and be confident they can't be changed) to force traffic through a machine, you've got a massive range of choice - for web traffic, there's Squid (also free, runs on *nix, don't know about Windows) with some configuration to block words or sites or whatever for specific/all IPs.

I WANT FREE HELP!

And just what do you mean by that ^^^^. If i ask for help or a recomendation ( as many people do in these forrms) then my reasons if any should not be questioned - i simply asked for advice on a program that would meet my needs. I asked for help from a community that has a wealth of knowledge - the advice offered is "free" so really it goes without saying that i will of course recieve "free help". Are these forums not about "sharing information" !!!!!
