Internet on a boat.

I presume you can't get a fixed BT line on the boat then? I know some moorings can supply BT lines.
If not and you can't get wireless than the only thing left is via the cellular network or satelitte but thats very expensive.

wisp = wireless Internet service providers using wimax etc

put a postcode into samknows.co.uk and see what if any wireless providers are available

3g is like 1/2 meg BB iirc

TMobile do 3gb for £30 a month, 10gb £44

Pay someone near you who does have internet to set up a wireless network?

Such a cool idea.
I will thank you on my mates behalf. He asked me how to get around this on his canal boat and i was stumped. Fortunetly we have another mate well within wireless range. Problem solved so cheers.

Also where is Freefaller isn't this what he does for a living ?
On Flash yachts admittedly but surely he is the man for this question.

An HSDPA connection is your best bet. Some operators are doing (reasonably) unlimited tariffs now at over 1mbps and ~100ms RTT.

that one even :(

your efforts were still appreciated ;)

this samknows.com site doesnt seem to have any information at all regarding wireless internet access... plenty of yammerings about BT`s 21st centuary network which wont be available for most of the country until 2011 but nothing of any actual use :(

Click on *** "availability checker" and then enter your postcode. Click the WIrelss button for the options in your area for wireless broadband.

After his innings as a Don I think he's taking some well earned time out.

there's no hotspots on the local canals unless i park it in the canal basin, but that's an expensive place to park up :(
