Internet:PC= fast, Mac = slow

My GF has recently moved in and has brought with her an iMac. I'm a PC user but also have an iPhone4 and iPad3. All of my devices run perfectly on my connection and speed tests show I'm getting 15mb down. However, my GF's Mac is very slow and has problems running youtube or streaming video. Can anyone shed any light on what might be happening? We're all using WiFi over a new Sky router. My Mac knowledge is non-existant so I feel technologically impotent. To confound matters she did not have this problem a few weeks back over orange WiFi broadband.

What OS version is she running? I've had lots of wifi related problems with Macs but they usually get fixed with OS updates.

She doesn't have any DNS settings manually set to point to Oranges DNS servers does she?

I'm guessing it's all set by DHCP but never know

She says the OS version is 'lion'?

I know for a fact she's never tinkered with the network settings but have read elsewhere that it could be DNS related. I'll try and have a tinker.

To put it into perspective I've been building tinkering with and fixing PCs since my teens. I tried her Mac and couldn't close a window without guidance.
